Wave Piercing Pilot 2000WP. Three units for Belgium pilots.

Baltic Workboats has come out with new, 20 meter Wave Piercing hull design for Pilot, Patrol and SAR boats. The new hull concept combines the wave piercing bows slender waterlines with the flare of a traditional high-speed bow with falling stem and the smooth ride of the double chine hull design. The hull shape is developed to minimize vertical accelerations at high speeds in rough weather conditions as well extra attention is paid to minimize spray and “green water” on deck. The new design concepts has been successfullyl developed and tested in both model test as well as full scale sea trials. Baltic Workboats uniqe experience and knowhow of building lightweight high performing vessels raise this boat to a new standard of fuel economy, manoeuvrability, and sea worthiness.

Despite the lightweight the hull is strengthened for safe operation of piloting at heavy seas and severe sea conditions. During sea trials, this hull concept has proven to fulfill the required operating limit of 0.95g significant amplitude of vertical accelerations in 2.5 m significant wave height at 25 knots with a 52% margin.

But the design is not only focused on head sea performance. Great efforts have been made to optimise the helm control for demanding following sea conditions. Even though the bow is deep and slender the highly effective rudders keeps the vessel under control for all occasions. At full speed you could easily turn the boat around at about 4 boat length undramatic and with full control. The great rudder control is also a geat and important benefit for safe and efficient docking operations. Rudders are large type in order to provide maximum manoeuvrability at low speed and low resistance.

Featured propeller tunnels allows the use of large propellers for enhanced propeller efficiency.

All of the structural elements are designed taking into account minimum 10,000 hull impacts per year. In order to manage safe hull impacts requirement vessels hull is also heavily fendered on two different heights.

The vessel is capable to maintain a continuous speed of minimum 25 knots whereas the maximum speed gained on sea trials is 30 knots.

The vessel has resiliently mounted wheelhouse, which is built in one section and accommodates up to 11 crew members with ease. Wheelhouse is outfitted with high quality materials, encounters robust design to provide comfortable and professional working conditions for crew and pilots no matter weather conditions or season. Special attention is paid to achieve logic, user-friendly and ergonomic workplaces for crew in harsh conditions of North Sea.

The vessel is designed and tested in real life also to have self-righting capability.

The propulsion package of this boat includes twin Volvo-Penta D16MH diesel engines rated for 479kW at 1,800rpm, ZF 665 marine gears, and five blades FPP-s.

Measured fuel consumption of delivered boats in operation already has been impressively low gaining 140 l/h @ 22 knots speed and 220 l/h @ 28 knots speed.

*(Optional propulsion system available for this type of vessel is based on Volvo-Penta IPS system with the main benefit of at least 20 % more fuel efficiency at same displacement and same speed.)

As result of Baltic Workboats continuous development in techniques and solutions used for insulation and interior assembly these boats are having despite of their size and power again extremely low noise level and vibration in all compartments.

Measured maximum noise levels under all sailing conditions do not exceed:

• Bridge (at head height of the skipper) @ full speed 63 dB and @ 22kn it was measured 58 dB)

• Engine room: 108 dB

• At rear deck: 73 dB from 6 to 12 knots

Vessels are equipped with all necessary Navigation and Communication equipment for A1 sea areas. Also a man overboard recovery davit is featured to deploy a Jason Cradle performing a recovery in less than 1’30’’.

There has been ordered three of these pilot vessels with new hull design by Belgium DAB Vloot. These vessels are successfully operating in North Sea Vlissingen area serving both Belgium and Netherland pilots. These boats are designed and built according Lloyd’s Register rules and have accordingly LR✜100A1 SSC Pilot Mono HSC G3 MCH UMS notation.

Yard has already two more vessels of same design in order book.
